School Finder
Schools are one of the top reasons buyers choose a neighborhood. Look up any Houston-area school, its ratings and its attendance zone.

Look up schools before you narrow neighborhoods
For families, the school zone usually does more to shape a home search than any other single filter, and it is far easier to apply at the start than to discover late. This tool searches Greater Houston campuses and districts, with the ratings and demographic detail HAR publishes for each.
Greater Houston contains dozens of independent school districts, several of which are among the largest and fastest-growing in Texas. District boundaries do not follow city limits: a Sugar Land or Katy address can sit in a district whose name matches a different city entirely, which surprises people relocating here more than almost anything else.
Verify the attendance zone for the exact address
This is the single most important thing to take from this page. Attendance zones are drawn by the district, not by the city or the subdivision, and two houses on opposite sides of the same street can feed different campuses. A listing's stated school is entered by the listing agent and is not authoritative.
Zones are also redrawn periodically as districts open new campuses to absorb growth, which the districts west and northwest of Houston do regularly. Before you let a school decide a purchase, confirm the current zone for that exact address with the district itself, and ask whether a rezoning is under consideration.
What a school rating does and doesn't tell you
Published ratings are heavily weighted toward standardized test performance, which correlates strongly with the income profile of the surrounding neighborhood. They are a reasonable first filter and a poor final answer, and they say very little about the things families often care most about — a particular programme, class sizes, the commute, or how a specific child will do there.
Texas also has open-enrolment options that sit outside attendance zones entirely, including public charter schools and district magnet or choice programmes with their own application processes and deadlines. If one of those is part of your plan, the deadlines are worth checking before the house search rather than after.
Common questions
Is the school listed on a property listing guaranteed to be correct?
No. School information on a listing is entered by the listing agent and is not authoritative. Confirm the attendance zone for the exact address with the school district before relying on it.
Can two houses on the same street be zoned to different schools?
Yes. Attendance zone boundaries are drawn by the district and can run down the middle of a street or through a subdivision, so neighbouring homes sometimes feed different campuses.
Do school attendance zones change?
Yes. Districts redraw zones periodically as they open new campuses and absorb growth, which happens regularly in the fast-growing districts west and northwest of Houston. Ask the district whether a rezoning is being considered for the area.
Does a Sugar Land address mean a Sugar Land school district?
Not necessarily. School district boundaries in Greater Houston do not follow city limits, so an address in one city is often served by a district named for another. Always check the district and campus for the specific address.
